
How does the Family Sponsorship Program work?

What is the process for becoming a Sponsor?

Sponsorship Agreement:
Providing financial support for a family member who cannot meet his own needs is a Sponsorship Agreement, which ensures that the new permanent resident does not require government assistance. This financial obligation has a different duration depending on the sponsored person:
- Three-year spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner
- Children under the age of 22 must be dependent on their parents for 10 years or until they reach 22 (whichever comes first); children over 22 must be dependent on their parents for 3 years
- If you are a parent or grandparent, 20 years
